Interviewed On Fertility And Functional Medicine By Ben Weitz

Posted by:

I was pleased to be interviewed by my colleague, Dr. Ben Weitz, on how to treat fertility issues with a functional medicine approach.  We spoke about many areas, including PCOS, hypothyroid, and other issues that affect fertility and how to treat them with nutritional changes as well as with acupuncture.

Would love to hear your comments as well as what other topics you’d like me to speak about.

Increasing Intimacy in 2017

Posted by:

holding hands photo

Immediately when I use the word intimacy you might think of sex. But looking at the definition of intimacy:

Closeness, togetherness, affinity, rapport, attachment, familiarity, friendliness, friendship, amity, affection, warmth, confidence… you can see sex is not included. Why? Because you can have sex without intimacy. But truly, in my experience, the best sex is when there is a deep closeness with a partner.

We all long to connect, ...

What is Success?

Posted by:

pregnant woman with child photoWhen people hear that I’m an acupuncturist specializing in fertility, often the first thing they want to know is how successful I am. In other words, how many of my patients actually get pregnant? I used to rummage through my brain, hunting for the statistics. Let’s see, this month eight people got pregnant, last month it was four, oh, but one couple chose to adopt, ...

Tie Me Up

They stood before us, he in his black pants, black leather vest and cap and his wife in her silk bra and striped underwear. She smiled at her husband when he said, “Isn’t my wife gorgeous?” And she was. Her rectangular glasses framed her face perfectly, her kinky hair stood straight up with a pink headband wrapped around it, as if to hold it in place.

I admired their love and her willingness to expose that voluptuous, chocolate brown body, ...

Let’s Talk about Sex

Posted by:

I want to talk about sex…  What I see in my practice is sexual dysfunction of many varieties.  It is so personal that people don’t really want to discuss it.  So I thought I would bring it out a bit.

When one thinks about fertility, sex would come to mind for many.  However, in my fertility practice it seems this is the one thing that is NOT happening.  Infertility is stressful enough and to ...

    • Echinacea – well-known for its  immune enhancing substances, echinacea can also relieve pain and reduce inflammation.  Some studies demonstrate its influence over hormones in addition ...

Riding the Monthly Wave

If you are a female, chances are the majority of your thoughts, actions, your physical and emotional sensations, are under the reins of your hormones.  However, the control we give our hormones depends on a variety of things: what we eat and drink, how we discharge nervous/stuck energy, or how we bring our creativity and expressions out into the world.  There isn’t one specific thing that determines the quality or duration of the pre-menstrual period.

Specifically, I want to talk about ...

Shake It Up!

Posted by:

The sky is a deep blue, the trees are awakening from their winter slumber, the white snow underneath us glistens and I am discussing the value of healthy eating with my ski instructor. “Yes”, she says, “I have started my kids age 1 and 3 on a healthy gluten-free diet.”

She also informs me that her husband has Crohn’s disease and she has discovered a great anti-inflammatory seed called chia ...

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Posted by:

Anyone who loves their preferred form(s) of exercise understands that the long term benefits go well beyond just being stronger, fitter, or looking better. Exercise can immediately make us happier and more energetic.  Exercise is a great coping mechanism to help balance the drama of life.  We are usually much more pleasant to be around after a good work-out since it’s much harder to stress when the body and mind are coasting on a post-exercise endorphin rush!  Regular physical movement ...
